There is no definitive ‘best’ first car, as every insurance company has their own set of rules when working out how much to charge for car insurance. However, we can give you a few tips to help you get a better car insurance deal.

* Get a car with a small engine, for example a 1.1 litre rather than a 1.6 litre, which is normally in a lower insurance group rating. You’ll also tend to pay less road tax for a small engine car.
* Stick to a basic or mid range specification car as these usually have a lower insurance group rating and avoid any performance models e.g. GTI, SXI, Sport.
* Avoid any modifications (upgrades to enhance styling, audio or performance), not only are modified vehicles more attractive to car thieves, they tend to be more expensive to fix and can increase your level of risk and premium.
* Add a second driver (named driver) to the policy, over the age of 25 with a clean license. Parents are usually a good idea and with women being cheaper to insure than men, mums are usually best!
* Get a Pass Plus certificate. Lots of insurance companies offer discounts to new driver who participate in the scheme.
* Increase your voluntary excess. Choosing a higher voluntary excess when you take out your policy will reduce the price of your insurance policy.

It’s standard for most insurance companies to ask the question about non-motoring convictions. It gives an indication of the moral hazard/risk of the insured. For example, if a driver had been found guilty of dishonesty, fraud or theft then the insurance company is less likely to accept them as a policyholder because of this or will charge more for a policy.

However they don’t ask for the specific details of the non-motoring conviction as there are too many to choose from and they are constantly changing, instead we just ask if you have a non-motoring conviction.

Please note: Spent convictions don’t need to be disclosed under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974

One things that some people forgot to do is, cancel their policy before switching to others. If you want a new car insurance from another company, don’t just ignore the bills or you will regret it. You insurers if not cancel, will issue out another bill for the next premium payment because the insurer company still considers you as their client. If you did not pay this bill, your account will be canceled but the thing is it will affect your credit record and influence the rates of your next insurance payments. That is not a very good news right? The best way is to make a call to the insurance agent or the insurer company you subscribe for, if you would like to cancel your policy and asked them if there is any other rules or contract within the policy that stated anything about switching to others insurer company that you need to know first. Give details and prove that you have new coverage from a different company. You might just save a lot of money on your wise decision and action taken!

I got some few e-mail asking about what is the best car insurance available in Malaysia?Of course the best means a lot of things. It is whether in terms of how fast u get the claim, how much they insurance cover most of it the flexibility of the insurance policy. If there is a lot of choices which claim to be the best, can we change our auto insurance for a new one?Is that practical or not?

This is what Chips aka moderator of mototrader forum has to say.Indeed it was something useful to share with here in carinsuranceviews.com .

Insurance companies normally pay out when the police close the case and declare that the car cannot be found. This can take 3 to 6 months. I heard that there are some insurance companies that also conduct their own searches, maybe because it is cheaper to recover the car for you than to pay you compensation.

Once they inform the insurance company that the car can’t be found, then it will begin processing the claim. This is where the problem often starts because of the valuation. Many times, motorists are dismayed to find that the insured value they paid the premium for is not what they get. The insurance company will have its own values and pay what they believe to be the market value at the time of the claim - regardless of the value you indicated and the premium that was based on that value.

It takes some negotiation to get a bit more and sometimes people are desperate to get their money, so they don’t waste time. When my girlfriend had her Levin stolen, the insurance company didn’t know that a Corolla GT (as the Levin was officially named in Malaysia) was not the same car as a normal Corolla sedan and certainly not the same price. But the insurance company offered the value based on the sedan which was way too low and it took a lot of convincing to get them to change the compensation figure. When I asked the officer why they had never questioned the value insured which was about double the price of a Corolla sedan, he said that they don’t tell customers how much to value but it does not mean that they will get the amount (in other words, if you are dumb enough to insure a high value and pay more premium, then too bad for you!).

Some companies are fast in paying out but usually you need to bug them. Unless you are wanting more, they would usually be quite ‘quick’ because they want to close the case too. The more you hassle them on the amount, the longer it takes.

Which are the good ones? Different people seem to have different experiences and it is not necessarily the case that the biggest one is the best. It is probably how they manage their processes and do their business.

For some time now, I have used AAM to buy my insurance and on the one occasion when my car was stolen temporarily and I had to go through the process, the AAM people were very helpful and handled everything for me. Fortunately I never had to reach the stage of compensation since the car was recovered after 5 days but I feel that had it reached that stage, it would have been advantageous having AAM represent me because they would have better contact and influence with their insurance company.

Some of the leading car companies also have their own panel of insurance companies and again, the car companies would have some influence in negotiating on claims. However, they would probably be more effective for accident claims than lost car claims. Often, if you have bought insurance through them and have an accident claim, their SC will handle everything and get the car repaired quickly because the insurance company allows them to start earlier (but for jobs under a certain value only).

Before taking a driving for holidays there things we need to consider first other than car insurance coverage. The most important things is preventive action rather than corrective action since it was too late if accident already took place.Let me ask you this, did you aware about yourself and environment condition before taking a long driving?I thing you might want to know this road safety danger signs so that you can be more cautious after this.
road-safety-signs
1.Avoid tiredness.Get enough night sleep! That the right way to put it.If you are typpe of person who easily got tired, take a few break during driving. It will not hurts if your journey is slow, safety first!

2-Do not use mobile phones even it was a hands-free call.It dents your reaction time to road hazards.

3.Air bags is not enough. Please make sure you wear seat belts.FYI air bags is 8 times less effective than seat belts

4.Make sure rear passengers wearing seat belts too.It was compulsory in Malaysia or you get a compound legally. In other countries, I’m not that sure whether they have this kind of law some have and some might not have it.Every country differs one and another.

5.Avoid loud, fast music since it also can affects your reaction while driving. Some British RAC Foundation studies even concluded “Ride of the Valkyries” as one of the most dangerous driving tunes.I wonder if it’s okay to hear rap songs. It’s kind of fast too.Anyhow, avoid musics that distracts you.

This is one important question need to be answer whenever we talk about car insurance. We definitely can’t run from it.When accidents happened it involves money.Money means come from car insurance itself or else you might have to pay for a very high bill for your car damage whenever meet an accident. The fact is, accidents happens and the best way to do is to prevent it from happening or at least minimize the effect or damage. Here what you can do:

# Check for cars twice before pulling into an intersection at a stop sign
#Look behind you before backing out of a parking place
# Watch for cars rushing through intersections at the end of a red light
# Look both left and right when making a right-hand turn
# Watch for cars that are pulling trailers
#When switching lanes on a highway, always turn your head and physically check for a clear lane; don’t just rely on your rear-view mirror
#Be very careful when you are close to trucks
#Watch for kids

It was all a key point without elaboration. At least these can help to prevent car accidents. There were thousands of ways to list down, but this is some of it.If you have your own, do share in the comments for others as guidance.

Insurance premiums in UK is increasing by 11% which is the fastest rate for nearly ten years. It’s a bad news for UK Motorists. This is what researchers had to say about the increases:
carcrash
1)The latest stats show a 3.5% rise in the cost of an average annual comprehensive car insurance policy (between April & June 2009) – hitting a staggering £778.13.
2)Younger drivers are suffering the most – third party, fire and theft rose by 4.6% to £968.22 – research has shown these are most likely to be bought by inexperienced drivers.

For young driver save pennies, it is advisable that motorists to look into a Pass Plus course, an additional qualification that can be achieved after passing your driving text, as it can cut down on premium costs.

The steep increase doesn’t look set to slow down any time soon, with experts predicting a continued climb. It seems that bad driving is costing the rest of us dearly. Personal injury claims have shot up, while as the credit crunch hits home, fraudulent claims have seen an increase too as drivers opt for desperate measures to make some cash.
